revitalizing our sustenance project

Revitalizing Our Sustenance Project (ROSP) was created in May 2020 during the beginning summer months of the COVID-19 pandemic due the scarcity of on-reserve food access and community programming/awareness surrounding agriculture & plant life! Revitalizing Our Sustenance began as an avenue for getting youth involved in producing food for the Six Nations of Grand River Territory, which has ultimately led to the creation of this Indigenous food, seed sovereignty, and land restoration focused programming. In order to increase access to Indigenous foods & environmental awareness/education within and outside the Six Nations community.

As the program and ROSP team grew, the community and land restoration needs became very evident over the summer months of 2021. As our project develops over time our long-term goals are:

1) Land Restoration & Revitalizing Plant Life
2) Seed Saving & Community Access to Seeds
3) Community Food Access & Community Engagement in learning Sustainable Agriculture
4) Awareness & Education surrounding Agriculture, Climate Change Effects, & Environmental Restoration
5) Building Resources for Land-Based Learning & Awareness

PS: ROSP is entirely youth lead.

The purpose of Revitalizing Our Sustenance Project is to strengthen Indigenous community relations, language learning, Haudenosaunee identity, and to establish healthier outlets for Indigenous youth.

Our focus is providing opportunities for learning through experiences, on-the-land education, and intergenerational connections. As Indigenous youth, we have experienced gaps in knowledge transfer between older and younger generations which is essential to regain Onkwehonwe / Indigenous, identity and teachings. ROSP focuses on bridging these gaps between generations through workshops, guest speakers, and educational opportunities.
